Space!
Today I am going to give y’all an exclusive sneak peek into parts of my own journaling practice. This is something that came up for me recently when I sat down to journal and set new intentions around a New Moon.
For context, I like to follow the lunar cycle and use that to structure my journaling sessions. It helps me stay consistent: journaling on the New Moon, First Quarter, Full Moon, and Last Quarter typically (and it doesn’t always look like that). I also like to align with the different energies of each astrological sign as they help to guide my thinking and what comes through for me. I am able to tap into and unearth different parts of myself or truths that are waiting to be revealed.
My journal prompt was: What do I need to step into the next version of myself?
S P A C E
space to listen
space to process
space to integrate
space to express
space to be free
space to explore
space to learn
space to rest
space to recharge
space to teach
space to lead
space to think
space to feel
space to gather
space for clarity
space to trust
Later in my journaling, I set my intentions and wrote out an affirmation that I want to share and offer to you if it feels supportive:
I am ready to create the space needed to step into my fullest expression.
One week later, in another journaling session (First Quarter Moon), I wrote:
time to commit to making the space
in my life
in my heart
in my head
in my days
How? How do I get to create more space in my life?
More free time that I don’t actively try to fill - schedule it in and honor it.
* honoring my sacred no’s strongly this season
Now in the span of two weeks, this idea was coming up in journaling sessions, in my conversations with friends and family, and in Scripture I was reading. I love synchronicities and I also know that where our attention goes, energy flows. The fact that I was aware I needed SPACE allowed me to see it, to cultivate it, and to receive wisdom in various forms about it. This is the power of our brains: what we focus on becomes our reality. So how did I ensure that this became a reality in my own life?
I took action. I committed to cultivating more space in my days. I blocked off free time in my calendar. I scheduled in additional self-care (again, in time blocks on my calendar. This is a practice that works for me. I use Google Calendar because I like to have it with me at all times. I plan out my weeks on my computer and then access my schedule day-to-day using the app on my phone). And, more importantly, I honored it!
I allowed myself the space and the time to pray, to meditate, and to journal more consistently. In my prayer time, my meditation, and my journaling, I create the space and the stillness to receive everything in that list that I wrote out in that first journaling session: listening, processing, integration, expression, freedom, exploration, learning, resting, recharging, teaching, leading, thinking, feeling, gathering, clarification, and trusting. What a gift! It all comes in the S P A C E.
I invite you to create some space. Right here, right now.
Take a deep breath in, full breath out.
Another deep inhale through the nose, exhale sigh out the mouth.
One more deep, expansive breath in + a full cleansing breath out.
Now, notice how you feel. Sit with that for a few moments.
How can you invite in more of that?
Thank you for taking the space! I love you.
xo,
Megan C
