Purpose
God knit you together in your mother’s womb–for a purpose.
What is purpose? The definition is “the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists.” When contemplating our purpose, we may wonder:
What is my life going to look like?
Who am I going to be?
What am I going to have?
When is my time?
God encourages us, “Do not fear.”
He tells us, “Do not be afraid.”
There is nothing to fear in life if we are following Jesus!
So then, how and where can we invite Jesus in? Let’s merge every aspect of our lives with Jesus. No more compartmentalizing.
What are your gifts? What are your talents?
What can you use to share about Jesus?
What can Jesus use to feed the people around you?
A quote I stumbled upon a few weeks ago from Sadie Robertson Huff says, “Your relationship with Jesus and your goals in life should go hand in hand.” This was a good reminder for me to align the two. Why? We have access to an abundance of joy, peace, and love – even in the hard! Everything changes when you invite Jesus into your life fully!
There is no condemnation in Jesus. We are tempted, shamed, judged, doubted…by the enemy. The enemy wants to dim our light, our fire.
A heart on fire for the Lord
A soul on fire by the Spirit
Fire is a transformative element. Fire brings light and illumination. Fire can give life and destroy. Fire is often a sign of rebirth, when something burns - another new creation can come to life from the ashes.
What is this rebirth? Who are we becoming in this purification process? How can we know who we truly are? Well…God’s Word helps us navigate through the unknown seasons of our life.
There is a powerful reminder for us to trust Him in Scripture when Jesus encourages Peter to cast out his net again - cast out into the unknown (Luke 5:4-11), trusting that He sees what we cannot. After fishing all night without catching a thing, they listened to Jesus and caught an abundance of fish. Then they followed Him!
We often don’t know where God is sending us. We are stepping out into the unknown. We don’t always know our purpose, our path, or His plan for our lives. We lean into trust; a deeper and more meaningful trust because we do not know.
How do we trust God?
Why do we trust God?
We trust God because we know Him. If we don’t, we come to know Him. We have faith in Him. If not, we learn more about who He is. We know that His plan is good; His plan is right for us. He is guiding us to greater things – more than all we could ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20).
Where do we start?
In the mundane. In the every day. In the Word. Start with Him. Get to know God; to truly know Him. All His works. All His promises. Learn about who He is and who He’s been throughout history. Rediscover, or discover for the first time, who He is and who He’s been in your own life. Deepen your relationship with Him. It’s the most important. Everything else builds upon that – your family, your coworkers, your friends, your spouse, etc. God is at the center of it all. Whether or not you believe, you let Him in, or you focus on it – He is there! He wants to be invited into your process. He wants you to surrender your life to Him. He wants you to trust Him. He has given His life, in Jesus Christ, for you! Yes, you! You are worthy. You are enough. You are a child of God.
Then build that relationship within a community. Satan lurks in the darkness, in the shadows, when we are in isolation. While it’s great to have your quiet time and your prayer time, we must live, serve, and worship together. Find a community of people that calls you higher, that challenges you, that uplifts you, that educates you, that inspires you. We are stronger together and we will go further together.
We all experience or have experienced the weight of doubt and insecurity or discomfort in the unknown. I want to highlight a few thoughts that have creeped into my mind and how to reframe them. These questions are not good or bad. Also I come back to these often – I feel like I know my purpose spiritually and energetically and yet I am still learning what it looks like now and what it can look like in the future (having lots of conversations with God about this).
Questions of doubt:
What is my purpose?
When is it my turn?
Where do I start?
Am I doing enough?
What unique value do I bring?
Am I where I am supposed to be?
Let go of the guilt, the shame, the “not-enoughness” – that is not from God.
God is a loving Father. He is here for you always, in all ways! Jesus has wiped away your sins. He has forgiven you. You are loved. You are wiped clean. You are made new in Him (Isaiah 43:19).
You were made for a purpose. Use your gifts and your talents to share the realness and the rawness of who you are in the world, who God made you to be.
I love you and I believe in you.

P.S. I am starting to realize as I write and post more blogs that these are almost letters to myself. Yes, they are my thoughts and musings - sometimes they are cohesive and other times not as much. I hope they continue to empower you and remind you that you’re not alone and you are always enough (not in what you do, but who you be!)
